“The truth will make you free.” John 8:32
We all teach our children that we should always tell the truth, but then we teach them things that just aren’t true. Ever tell a child; “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me?” We all know that’s just not true. Words hurt. We know that but are trying to convince the child, and ourselves, that things will be ok. The real truth is, sometimes the words are so harmful they may last a lifetime.
In the scripture today we don’t hear about telling the truth but about knowing the truth. The truth in Jesus Christ. The truth is we are madly, wonderfully, fully loved by the Savior. We don’t have to be anything but who we are--imperfect, flawed, and wounded. We are loved perfectly by Jesus. May we go forth this day, knowing the truth and may we be free in the grace and love of Jesus.
