A $1,000 matching grant from the Mississippi Conference helped increase the positive impact that Hazlehurst United Methodist Church has made in its community.
Some of their work involved providing for disadvantaged parents of newborns. These parents have received packets containing handmade caps and items such as diapers, wipes and bibs from members of the Hazlehurst UMC Outreach Committee. The church has also provided area school children with backpacks and school supplies. They have even purchased school uniforms for students in foster care. In appreciation for the donations, the Copiah County Department of Human Services mailed a letter to the church thanking the outreach committee.

That notice along with colorful pictures with captions and several purchase receipts was neatly compiled into a scrapbook for reporting to the Mississippi Conference Connectional Ministries Mission Grants committee. The Hazlehurst UMC Outreach Committee's shared in the report:
"Our goal is to provide needed items not readily available through other sources by working with the agencies in charge, thereby helping overburdened parents in underserved children with what they need for a successful school experience."
The generosity of Mississippi United Methodists furnishes Mission Grants for groups like Hazlehurst UMC.
