Youth and Communications Assistant


The Mississippi United Methodist Conference is seeking to fill the position of youth and communications assistant. This position is responsible for administrative support of youth and family ministry programming and video production of youth and family ministry events and trainings as well as breaking news video production for the Mississippi Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.


  • Provide administrative support for youth and family ministries through organizing events and preparation of materials for meetings, training programs and conferences
  • Manage projects, determine priorities and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality, comfortably taking initiative and exercising independent judgment to resolve issues
  • Conduct off-site work with administrative staff of various vendors and facilities, for set-up tasks and coordination of successful events
  • Assist the youth and family ministry coordinator administering the ministry area budget, including monitoring and tracking expenses, budget reconciliation, resolving issues and assisting with developing budget projections, collecting information for budget development to ensure accuracy and compliance with approved budget and assigned codes
  • Connect with students and youth and family ministry leaders on all social platforms under the direction of communications
  • Create highlight videos of all youth and family ministries events & trainings 
  • Lead the media volunteers for events
  • Create regular social media videos with conference senior staff for promotion of events and trainings and other immediate release information under the direction of communications 
  • and other duties as deemed needed
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Must have proficient computer and software application skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Avid or Final Cut Pro or other comparable editing soft/hardware
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Advance verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of The United Methodist Church and the Mississippi Conference and/or a willingness to learn
  • Must be capable of concurrently working independently as well as being an active participant of a team
  • Graphic design skills are a plus
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The salary will be commensurate with experience.
